Discovering Christmas Spirit at Blenheim Palace
Post updated: December 2021
For me, nothing ignites my Christmas spirit more than experiencing Christmas at Blenheim Palace. When we first visited in 2019, we knew this would become a festive family tradition, and second only to the big day itself, we unanimously vote this as our Christmas highlight.
What is Christmas at Blenheim Palace?
How to make exploring UK Towns & Villages fun for kids!
My husband & I like exploring pretty towns & villages across the UK. We love a wander, a stop for something to eat and a little browse of (& of course spending in) their independent stores. That’s a nice day out for us.
Now if we mention this plan to the kids, everything other than eating is met with a groan. A really big groan. And let’s be honest, if the kids aren’t having fun – nobody is having fun! So what to do?
Thankfully, for a recent day trip to the beautiful East Sussex town of Rye, we stumbled across a way to get in full-on explorer mode, keep everyone happy and still make time for cake!
Let me tell you all about Treasure Trails!
Happy Days Out: Hever Castle
Visiting Hever Castle has been on my want-to-do list for a very long time now. I have a love of history, especially the Tudor period, so a day spent at the childhood home of Anne Boleyn was always going to be a wish of mine.
However, when you’ve got kids it’s not necessarily somewhere you feel confident in taking them to. So Hever was often moved lower on our where-next pile. But that all changed when our recent East-Sussex staycation found us near the path of this historic castle. Fate was telling me it was time & with a little bit of apprehension, I roped husband & kids into a day-trip there with me.
And thank goodness I did! Visiting Hever Castle with kids in tow far exceeded my expectations.

Here’s why we loved visiting Hever Castle with kids (plus some top tips to get the most from your family day-out there)…
5 Fun kid-friendly things to do in Malta
Here’s the third and final part of my Happy Travels Malta mini-series. You can catch up on the first two here: 10 Things you should know about Malta and here: Happy Travels: Where you absolutely should go in Malta
This time I’m concentrating on the little ones! As a parent, picking a destination that will also make my children happy is a paramount part of the decision making process.
Malta is a perfect family destination, not least because of the family-friendly culture everywhere you go.

There are so many fun places to visit despite it being a really small island. Actually, the fact that it is such a small island makes it ideal as there won’t be any long car journeys to contend with. Such a win!
So if you find yourself in Malta with kids here are 5 fun kid-friendly things to do…
Happy Days: Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham
Freshly opened in 2018, Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham is keen to make its mark within the Merlin Group of UK attractions.
Located on the doorstep of Arena Birmingham (we used the Arena South carpark to access) Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham is essentially an indoor Lego playground created to inspire and delight the under 10’s.
Some describe Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham as a more compact version of a Legoland theme park but I believe if you go with this expectation you will be disappointed. Let me put it this way, if you want a Legoland theme park, go to a Legoland theme park. They are two very different experiences.
If anything, this place focuses even more on the Lego without the potential need for a theme park poncho or oversized-reusable slushy cup!
With a young Lego master builder in the family (and dare I say it) feeling like we needed a break from visiting Legoland Windsor – we ventured to Birmingham on a cold winter’s day for our alternative Lego experience.

What to expect at Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham…

5 Things to do in Buda, Budapest.
Prior to visiting, I certainly wasn’t aware Budapest was a city of two sides – Buda and Pest – see what they did there? Pest is very much where the action is at, especially if you class ‘action’ as nightlife. However, before you rule Buda out – let me tell you – it has tons to offer! Think historical buildings, laid-back charm, amazing views, shops, restaurants, cafes, museums – not to mention (although I will) the Castle District is a UNESCO World Heritage site. I believe no trip to Budapest would be complete without time spent in beautiful & peaceful Buda.
Whether you plan to visit for the day or make this your home for the duration of your stay, here are my top 5 recommended things to do in Buda:
