In 2017, WHO believed that 300 million people were experiencing depression worldwide. Fast forward through the pandemic, and it’s estimated that number will be double.
Thankfully, the stigma of mental health is being chipped away at. More and more people are speaking up, seeking help and getting through. But sadly, too many still go undiagnosed.
This has to change.
I experienced depression in my early 20’s. I remember how alone and devoid of hope I felt. It’s not a mental space I ever wish to go back to. It still takes conscious action on my part to protect the mental health I have. But I know it’s worth the effort – we are all worth the effort.
You can read about my experience with depression here.
Someone else who truly understands the beast that is depression is Justin Proud, creator of a meaningful, conscious clothing brand – Solis.
His own experience led him to create a wearable, daily reminder that you are not alone, that there is hope no matter how dark times feel.
We all need that hope, don’t we!
Each Solis t-shirt features a meaningful design that reflects the wearer’s personal journey and acts as a talisman for brighter days ahead. Justin hopes the t-shirts will create a feeling of belonging to those who are feeling alone.
And that’s not all…
Not only does Solis support the wearer, but it also supports others going through mental health struggles, and by purchasing a Solis t-shirt, you can help too.
A £5 donation is made to the Samaritans for each purchase, helping to fund their work and supporting those in need.
Good to know: Solis clothing is made from 100% organic cotton, is vegan approved, and is Fairwear Foundation certified. They’re available in a range of sizes, and delivery is FREE.
Solis asked me to choose my own meaningful t-shirt, and I chose the original logo tee. I like the design of a dark cloud with sunshine peeping out from behind, a symbol that darkness will always give way to light, eventually. Something that I’m living proof of.
I’ve enjoyed wearing my t-shirt for a few reasons. One, because it’s an excellent conversation starter; when I get complimented on it, it’s a little doorway into mentioning the mental health message behind it (you never know who might need to hear it!). And two, because it’s a comforting reminder of the journey I’m on, on days when I’m feeling fragile.
