As a makeup wearer & skincare enthusiast, I feel responsible for taking good care of my skin; after all, doesn’t everyone want their skin to look and feel its best? For a while now, I’ve known the best way to cleanse my skin is to cleanse it, well, twice. I appreciate for some this may seem like a lot of extra effort, but honestly, it isn’t. And with the fantastic cleansers I’ve recently discovered from clean beauty company, JUNOCO, double-cleansing has become more simple, enjoyable & effective.
Why double-cleanse?
Double-cleansing helps to clean your skin as thoroughly as possible. The first cleanse breaks down anything on the surface, washing away makeup, SPF, pollutants, sweat and oil. The second cleanse then targets deeper into your pores.
Properly cleansed skin allows other products to penetrate deeper and work more effectively, such as serums and moisturisers. Taking 2 minutes to double-cleanse each evening can help brighten your complexion, reduce the number of breakouts you experience and leave your skin feeling wonderfully clean. That’s got to be something worth trying, right?

Step #01 Cleanse your skin with an oil-based cleanser
It’s best to start with an oil-based cleanser to remove any oil-based impurities, including makeup, sunscreen, and sebum.
Currently, I’m using JUNOCO’s Clean 10 cleansing balm; this balm to oil cleanser effortlessly dissolves even waterproof makeup. I warm the balm between my fingers, allowing it to transform into a silky oil, then I gently massage it onto dry skin for around 1 minute.
JUNOCO’s Clean 10 Cleansing balm is impressive at dissolving everything. It’s the best balm to oil cleanser I’ve used to date – even better than Clinique’s Take the Day Off – I find it more effective and better value. The balm comes with a mini spatula which means nothing gets contaminated. Plus, I love its light, natural scent of Californian tangerines.
Step #02 Thoroughly rinse off your cleanser
This step can be done by rinsing your face with water until all trace of cleanser is removed. However, a muslin cloth, flannel, or makeup remover pad will help remove all traces of residue more effectively and efficiently.
JUNOCO Cleansing Cookie (nope, sorry, it’s not edible) is a super soft makeup remover pad. I’ve found it much gentler on my skin than muslin cloths or flannels.
After saturating the pad with lukewarm water, I use gentle circular motions all over my face, up to my hairline- and not forgetting my neck – to thoroughly remove any residue and prep my skin for the following (and final) step.
Top Tip: Using lukewarm water helps to avoid dehydration.
Good to know: JUNOCO’s cleansing cooking rinses really well, and the attached loop is perfect for hanging it to air dry.
Step #03 Cleanse your skin with a water-based cleanser
Keeping your skin damp, proceed to a second cleanse with a water-based cleanser. The second wash will work deeper, removing any grime or sweat and giving your skin cells the best chance of regenerating.
As well as offering a lovely deep clean, JUNOCO’s powder to foam clarifying cleanser moisturises, gently exfoliates, and through continued use, can help to even out skin tone. As the first cleanser of this kind I’ve used, I thought it might be gimmicky, but I’m pleased to say it works very well.
I tap about half a teaspoon of powder into my wet hands and then rub them together as it quickly turns into a light foam, which I then massage gently onto my face before rinsing off and patting my skin dry.
Top Tip: This cleansing powder is 100% making it into my travel bag; the no liquid nature makes it perfect for taking through airports.

While it’s not mandatory to double-cleanse your skin, it’s certainly extra beneficial for a makeup wearer. Both the cleansers I’ve mentioned here are excellent to use as part of a double-cleanse regimen but also work exceptionally well if a single-cleanse is more your thing.
Ultimately, having clean, well-cared-for skin is the aim of the day, which I hope I’ve shown is easily achievable in 2 minutes or less. Happy Cleansing!
