5-weeks ago I embarked on a self-discovery course created by the founder of WILDWOMAN.
What is WILDWOMAN? WILDWOMAN is the UK’s first non-fiction, book subscription box for women. And in my personal opinion, a brilliant self-care package delivered straight to your door each month. Find out more about my experience with WILDWOMAN self-care subscription boxes here.
As beneficial to your well-being as their subscription boxes, WILDWOMAN’s latest offering is nurturing and empowering – not to mention a lot of fun – to say the least!
Here’s everything you need to know about Grow Wild by WILDWOMAN, the self-discovery course…
Grow Wild is a virtual online course run over 4-weeks with a bonus 5th week thrown in for free.
Each intake is run as a ‘season’ and I was part of season 1. Each season has their own private Facebook group made up of all your fellow participants (more on this in a moment).
Activation:
Every Monday evening, we would kick off the week with a live ‘activation’ group ZOOM session. Donna, the founder of WILDWOMAN and course leader would introduce our focus for the week, guide us through a meditation and ask us to journal or reflect.
One of my favourite parts of activation was the 3 deep-breath and shake-it-out exercise Donna would start us off with – something I’ve adopted in my daily life ever since. (I’m sure there is an official name for this exercise, but we’ll go with this.) It was great for building energy, grounding and giving focus.
Good to know: Although the sessions are run on Zoom, there is absolutely no pressure for you to appear on camera. You can turn your camera off and still take part. Sessions last between 60-90 minutes.
Immersion:
The second live session of the week was referred to as ‘immersion’ – another 60-minute session with an industry expert. These sessions were a highlight of the course for me – especially when my Instagram favourite, Sarah Powell taught us the much-needed practice of self-celebration.
I even took part in my first ever yoga session, something I would like to explore further. But all of the immersion sessions were really helpful & provided a lot of useful takeaways.
Circle:
Finally, a ‘circle’ session ran at the end of the week which focused on reflection and community, and ultimately was an opportunity to speak & share our thoughts with each other; always supported and encouraged by Donna.
Workbook:
In addition to the live sessions, we would be issued with a weekly workbook reflecting the theme of the week. This reinforced what had been said in the ‘activation’ session and always contained an activity to explore the topic and guide us further forward on our self-discovery journey.
Good to know: Your workbook is for your eyes only. You’re never required to share what you write or discover. There is no deadline for completion on them either. As Donna said throughout the course ‘take what you need, go at your own pace.’
What did I learn from Grow Wild?
Surprisingly, quite a bit. I say surprisingly only in that I read & write about well-being quite profusely, so I’m not a newcomer to this area. However, turns out there is always more to discover & learn.
The course helped to reinforce my self-care practices. It taught me to listen fully to my intuition, to live more authentically with confidence. To understand my values and hold-firm to my boundaries. It helped me to explore my relationships with others, built some confidence and encouraged me to believe in myself – not a bad result right?
What did I like about Grow Wild?
It was great to have the opportunity to connect with a likeminded group of women all on a journey of discovery together. The Facebook group allowed us to become part of a community, seek reassurance, initiate conversations and ultimately help each other grow.
The whole of Grow Wild was a very inclusive environment, a no-judgement zone, full of kindness, support & compassion. There really was no pressure on you to be anything other than your authentic self.
As I mentioned before – there is no deadline for you to complete this course. Yes, there are ‘live’ sessions 3 times per week, but they are always recorded and readily available for you to watch back when you’re ready. The same goes for the workbook. And, once you take part in a Grow Wild season, you have lifetime access to all the materials. The Facebook group is lifetime access too.
Finally, I really liked that the groups are kept small and intimate. The number of people to connect to wasn’t overwhelming, allowing you to get to know your fellow participants better. In the circle sessions, it always meant you had an opportunity to speak and be a valued part of the conversation.
Good to know: As the course is run virtually you can take part anywhere in the world – you don’t need to be UK based.
Who would I recommend Grow Wild by WILDWOMAN to?
Definitely anyone who feels like they’ve lost their way a bit, who needs the opportunity to become clear on their thoughts, values & boundaries and understand who they are and what they need in order to thrive.
If you want to understand these things in a community environment, to have the support and shared experiences, this is another reason you should take part.
For anyone looking for something fun, with opportunities for moments of calm each week, a good grounding in self-care and a healthy dose of self-belief – this is the course for you!
Final reflections…
As my 5-weeks on the course drew to a close, I’ll always be thankful for the opportunity to take part in Grow Wild. I’m using the knowledge I gained to help me grow further and I’m doing it from a place of better self-awareness and self-belief. I will miss my time on the course but know it will always be there for me to take what I need right when I need it.
