The saying goes – work smarter not harder.  This is an especially great piece of advice to apply to our beauty routines.  One simple way to work smarter is to introduce products that provide us with multiple possible applications all in one convenient little package.

Say hello to multi-use beauty products…

A fantastic little beauty sidekick that pulls more than its fair share of the weight.  These little gems free up space on our shelves, save us precious time and money, whilst providing the solution to a multitude of beauty dilemmas.

Sound like something you could do with in your life?

If you’re in need of a multi-use beauty hero, here are 5 of my favourites:

NUXE Huile Prodigieuse*

I can’t claim to be able to pronounce the name, but I can easily state what’s so great about this dry oil!  Aside from adding moisture to your face and body, NUXE Huile Prodigieuse can be smoothed through your hair for added shine and reduced frizz.

Pamper yourself by adding a drop or two to your bath to help soften your skin whilst you soak.

If you’re looking for a bit of added sparkle the golden shimmer version*(my personal favourite) adds a subtle all-over shimmer, perfect for evenings out and holidays, or just because you can!  I mix a few drops into my foundation for a hint of golden radiance and to create a dewy finish.  You can also apply directly to cheekbones as a subtle highlighter.

It’s non-greasy, packed with 6 essential oils plus vitamin E, smells lovely and is suitable for all skin and hair types.  When I’m having a day where I feel like I’m in need of a little added ‘something’ this bottle always delivers the answer.

Dr. PawPaw multipurpose balm

On first impressions, this looks like a regular lip balm.  Well, put aside your first impressions, because this my friend is so much more!

This soothing balm is not just for use on your lips, but also on your skin and nails.  I personally think it’s fantastic at relieving the soreness of dry and cracked cuticles, which I often suffer with in colder months.

Rich in antioxidants and vitamins B & C, Dr. PawPaw also works for nappy rash, prickly heat, bites and stings.  Perfect for out and about on the spot aid.

It also has its uses for your makeup!  Use as a brow smoother and shaper or even as an eye makeup primer (just make sure to apply before any foundations, concealers or powders)

All this before I’ve even said that it’s actually quite a decent lip balm too!  I own three! One for my makeup bag, desk drawer and handbag, it really is that good.

Top Tip If you’re suffering from a cold, apply Dr Paw Paw to your nose and the skin just above your upper lip, to help form a protective barrier and help keep at bay any irritation or soreness from tissue overuse!

Rimmel London Nail Nurse Base and Top Coat 5-in-1

A mandatory staple within my Christmas stocking for the past 5 years (yes I still have a stocking and yes I’m in my 30’s – make of it what you will)  This little gem of a multipurpose nail treatment has revolutionised my at-home manicures all for under £5!

It strengthens and protects my nails giving them the optimum chance for growth.  It seals any cracking or flaking, prevents staining and allows for smooth application of my nail polish.  Applied over your colour, it provides a naturally shiny finish.  It’s actually quite nice to wear on its own too.  Plus it dries pretty quickly.

I’ve tried so many different nail treatments, base coats and top coats, my beauty drawers were full of them.  At one point I was applying up to 6 different products in one manicure sitting and I still wasn’t satisfied with the results.  I spent a fortune on one particular top coat and could actually peel it away from the nail colour, despite it’s claims of being the professional’s go-to!  But this all became a thing of the past once I discovered Nail Nurse.

Save yourself time, money and drawer space and give this all-in-one manicure master a go!

Priced at around £4.  Find out more here.

Nars The Multiple*

This original and best-selling multi-purpose stick has been a repeat purchase for my makeup bag for longer than I care to remember.

If you’ve never heard of NARS the Multiple before, it’s your one-stop shop for adding colour to your overall look in the form of a solid cream makeup stick.  When applied with your fingers it warms easily and blends effortlessly into the skin, creating a hint of colour for the eyelids, cheeks and lips.   Available in a variety of shades, the most popular shade ‘Orgasm’ has a warm pink tone with a hint of gold shimmer.

The multiple makes morning makeup application very quick and virtually mistake proof.  It’s also perfect when travelling and for touch-ups when out and about.  Whilst I haven’t unlocked the secret to making it stay the whole day, I still believe this is a great makeup multitasker, which more than deserves its iconic status.

Top Tip:  I find it creates quite a matte finish when applied to the lips, so I follow up with an application of lip balm just to soften it slightly – alternatively apply a slick of clear gloss for full-on shine.

Aloe Vera Gel

Recommended: Multi-use beauty products. Image of Jason Aloe Vera Gel bottle

My beautician advised me of the wonders of Aloe Vera Gel when I needed something to calm my skin post-wax and to help prevent ingrown hairs.  I found it worked wonders!  Since I introduced Aloe Vera to my skin care regime, I’ve become aware that this miracle herb is a multi-tasking superstar.

You can use it as a regular moisturiser to hydrate and soften – but it also helps with treating minor wounds, cuts, burns and stretch-marks.  All due to Aloe Vera being rich in vitamin C, E and beta carotene – nourishing ingredients that are also known for their anti-ageing properties.

It’s also perfect for use as an after-sun.  It cools and soothes the skin after prolonged sun exposure.  Aloe has been reported as effectively treating eczema too!

The key is to find a gel that has the highest % of Aloe Vera in it – make sure to read the ingredient list!  Jason’s Aloe Vera Gel contains 98% Aloe Vera and doesn’t contain any parabens, SLS or phthalates.

Aloe Vera Gel really has a multitude of uses, which is why it now has a permanent place in our bathroom cabinet.

Top Tip:  Apply a decent layer to cleansed skin as a hydrating face mask.  Leave for 10 minutes before tissuing off the excess.  Make sure to avoid your eye area.

Always proceed with caution if using products for anything other than their intended use. Especially when applying near your eyes.
